William Salmon
The Family-Dictionary; Or, Household Companion
London: H. Rhodes, 1696.
7 x 43/4 inches
An interesting compendium of recipes, cookery, dyes, liquors, beers and ciders, potions, medicines, etc.
This copy featuring the engraved plate and from library of Sir Alexander Campbell, 2nd Earl of Marchmont: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Hume-Campbell,_2nd_Earl_of_Marchmont
Rare second edition with few located online, especially rare in this condition.
2 blank leaves + 1 leaf title + 3 leaves (6 pages) 'Preface' + 393 pages (pages 1-16 not numbered) + 7 pages of Adverts for Hen. (Henry) Rhodes + 2 blank leaves. Complete.
Condition is very good. Nicely re-backed at some point with the original calf boards, showing some wear to edges. Internally near fine with some light and sporadic foxing and toning, a small stain to the hinge side edge of the title. Otherwise a very clean and complete copy of a very rare and interesting work.
