This copy made especially for famous composer LEOPOLD STOKOWSKY and thereafter owned by Frances Flynn Paine, well known in the New York art world and promoter of Mexican culture. She was a friend and early agent to famous artist Diego Rivera, as well as sourcing art directly for the Rockefellers.
143/4 x 113/4 inches. FOLIO.
'55 LAMINAS' (55 PHOTOGRAPHS). Large silver gelatin photographs on heavy, thick stock housed loosely in a clothbound portfolio.
pp. 1 title + 1 leaf insciption to Stokowsky + 55 numbered photographic prints 1-55 plus 1 extra unnumbered + 1 blank marbled leaf. Appears complete but possibly a unique volume for Stokowsky. This example is larger than the couple other rare examples we found online.
Near Fine condition. Light occasional edgewear, small crease to corner of photo #24, mid portfolio original cloth ties torn off and not present, 1 cloth tie at top of volume torn off but present. Each print with Cervantes' stamp verso and Paine's owner's signature to back of some of the photos. A fine and special volume otherwise in fine, original condition.
